"There will be...earthquakes in various places" [Matthew 24:7]

Are we living in prophetic times? Are the weather patterns we see today a sign of things to come or simply the Earth going through its natural cyclic changes? To be honest, I don't know. But we should always keep awake to the events of our day and pay attention to the world around us.

Welcome to 'Keep On Seeking'

Hello and welcome to 'Keep On Seeking'. There are many reasons a person would begin a project like this. So what is the story with me and this site?

I consider myself more a man of science than a man of faith. My degree is based in the computer sciences and my passions are found in astronomy, physics, and mathematics. I also greatly enjoy reading about various subjects such as. history, theology, philosophy etc...

I have not come to believe in a God because I read it in the Bible (which is a good example of circular reasoning). I don't believe in God because someone with a degree in theology told me He exists (this is a good example of the "appeal to authority" logical fallacy). For the most part, I have been greatly influenced by my studies of astronomy, the related physics and mathematics. I have to say that I find many of the teleological arguments to be quite compelling. I personally find it hard to believe that all this 'magic' just simply happened with no initial cause.

With that being said, I also must state that I am not convinced that the God written about in a series of old Jewish books describes my God either. I do consider the Bible to be an authority and of great value as an historical reference, but I have simply read and seen too much to believe that any one group has THE "truth" about God. In my experience I have found that most christians don't analyze the text with a historical perspective. In other words, when reading excerpts from the Bible, one must take into account what these words would mean to a Jew living 2-3 thousand years ago. Probably 90% of christians I have spoken with have no real knowledge of other ancient Jewish writings, such as those by Josephus. This, to me, does not speak very highly of the message they carry. It makes me ask WHY do they believe what they do? To me, most peoples beliefs seem to be based more on emotional needs and not intelligent and logical studies.

I did not start this blog to be preached to (and/or corrected) and I will certainly not preach to you! I am beginning this search with the idea that no one REALLY knows the truth about God. Maybe there is no truth to be found. If there is a finite, unchangeable "truth" that is not subject to relative perceptions (being that the truth changes based on who perceives/reads it), then why would there be so much confusion regarding the matter? I don't want to relegate God to a simple 'initial mover' but I see no proof of any further interaction.

I do see a great deal of wisdom and useful information found throughout the proverbs of Solomon and other Jewish writings, especially the words of Christ. Now, whether or not Christ was a real historical person (I believe he was) does not matter to me at this point. For starters I will simply state that his words, and those of Solomon, should be viewed with the same respect that one would give to the works of Plato, Aristotle and Kant etc...

I will get to these and many more topics/questions I ponder over quite intensely. Once again, I am not trying to sway your thinking and I don't want you to try to sway mine. I do on the other hand look forward to reading your replies and potential answers/interpretations to various topics.
