"There will be...earthquakes in various places" [Matthew 24:7]

Are we living in prophetic times? Are the weather patterns we see today a sign of things to come or simply the Earth going through its natural cyclic changes? To be honest, I don't know. But we should always keep awake to the events of our day and pay attention to the world around us.

An experiment with socialism

A college level economics class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on socialism. All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A.

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B.

The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.

As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.

The second test average was a D! No one was happy.

When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

The scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great but when government takes the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

Could not be any simpler than that.

What a profound short little paragraph that says it all

"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

~ Dr. Adrian Rogers, 1931

Now, try adding regulation and inheritance.

In capitalism with inheritance - Everyone who comes from a rich family (about one of five)gets a C for no effort, and can, with extra work, get up to an A. Everyone from a very rich family gets a free ride. They ace everything. Now, everyone from a poor family (about four in five) gets a C for A effort. They can only get a B or more if they do favors for the rich kids.

Capitalism works if and only if there is an even original distribution of wealth. The son of Bill Gates shouldn't be able to ride on my shoulders. Add a 100% capital gains tax, remove other taxes, and give me enough money to get my life started, and I'd be perfectly happy.

Now, add regulation to the socialism: Any particularly bad outliers will be cut out and failed.

Just think about this a bit, and, for the sake of freedom of speech, don't reject my post, accept it and respond to it.

This is not true. Your usage of generalizations make your theory seem not very thought out... "Everyone" from a rich family gets a free ride?!? Wow, really? Please define "rich" because I know folks you might consider rich, but they got that way because they work 100 hours a week and their kids do not get free rides either; no allowances, no cars, and many chores and that's after school and work. This way they learn that IF you work hard and save your money, you MIGHT get ahead (capitalism). There is no free ride! Maybe the "elite" get free rides, but they do in any type of government be-it capitalistic, socialistic, fascist, imperial et cetera. Long before capitalism (Romans, Greeks, Egyptians) there were rich people who had it all and the common man who had nothing. It remained this way for most of human history. Have you ever read of the feudal system? Read your history and then take another look at what we have done today with capitalism. Now, and only now can the common man have a real chance; not a guarantee but a chance!

That's not capitalism. Please define what you believe capitalism to be? But semantics aside, so you believe it would work if there was an original distribution of wealth? have you ever heard of the statement, "A fool and his money will soon be parted?" There is a lot of truth to that. I know a number of folks who are broke, and for a reason! They are fools with their money. So even if we all started out on level ground, they quickly would squander their money on nonsense. Why should I then take my money that I have been working hard for and saving (By saving my money I never enjoy spending it myself) and give to someone who threw their cash away? I don't get to blow it and have fun. I just get to work and save and then simply give it to the fool who blew his money? Yea, that's some system there. You complain about the "rich" yet I doubt you understand the difference between someone who is rich (they make 250,000 a year and give you work/paycheck) and the truly elite. The "rich" people are simply those who had nothing, worked real hard and saved money like mad...and now they have a little extra. They often will use this extra money to open a business and provide a job to you!

Have you head of Darwin and his theory of natural selection? Maybe nature selects those who are to be successful. If you are the type of person who thinks it's fun to blow their entire paycheck on Friday night, then you don't deserve to eat on Saturday. I wont be buying your food after you blow your payheck on booze...sorry! Oh, but you have food stamps so I guess I will. Ah, American socialism already at work (see below)!

>>> "Any particularly bad outliers will be cut out and failed."

Good luck with your ideologies. I would much rather live in a country that I can get ahead if I work hard and don't act foolish with my money.

Also keep in mind that what we have in America today is not really "capitalism" it's a quasi blend of capitalism and socialism and has been for decades. Roosevelt ushered in an era of socialistic concepts here in the states that we still adhere to today, even though they are bankrupt e.g. welfare, social security etc.
