A divided (modern) Israel and the prophet Joel

Joel 3:2 - I will gather all nations and will bring them down into the Valley of Jehoshaphat, and there will I deal with and execute judgment upon them for [their treatment of] My people and of My heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations and [because] they have divided My land.

I was reading an interesting article today in an Israeli newspaper. It says that the nation state of Israel has been divided. Now, I am not sure what I feel regarding Israel in modern times but I know a good deal of you do believe that Israel is playing a major role in ages-old prophecies. If this is the case then these events are surely of great meaning.
